Thanks, Peter. It's some consolation, and it reminded me that I probably should've recognized Jack Benny sooner. A few years ago, I wrote a paper comparing his role in the film To Be or Not to Be to Hamlet. I watched that 1942 film often enough. Perhaps it was seeing him not in black-and-white but color that threw me...
Reply | <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('6693','kgagne','Thanks, Peter.
It's been many years since I've seen IAMMMMW, but I still have fond memories of the race to find the "Big W".

I guess the problem with an "all star cast" movie is that it often loses its zing if you don't know the stars (and their previous work), particularly when the characters are almost caricatures of themselves.

If it's any consolation, Ken, I'm familiar with Jack Benny. Funnily enough, in my case it's mostly through his television work. He could give master classes in comedy timing and understatement, doing more with just a look than many comedians with minutes of monologue.
Reply | <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('6624','peterw','It\'s been many years since I\'ve seen IAMMMMW<\/em>, but I still have fond memories of the race to find the \"Big W\".\r\n\r\nI guess the problem with an \"all star cast\" movie is that it often loses its zing if you don\'t know the stars (and their previous work), particularly when the characters are almost caricatures of themselves.\r\n\r\nIf it\'s any consolation, Ken, I\'m familiar with Jack Benny.
