The term "enlightened self interest" comes to mind. With Showbits I still get to hear of things (and people and ideas and ...) that I wouldn't otherwise hear about, and to discuss those "things" with which I am familiar with other like-minded people. (Or maybe not so like-minded, and that's good too!)
