As a fan of Miyazaki's anime, it's hard for me to be objective, but I think Kiki's Delivery Service is his most accessible work to younger, Western audiences. It's no wonder that Disney and Pixar's Lassiter wanted to bring it over to a wider release.

I also see no need to adapt such films to live action, but U.S. audiences seem to prefer computer animation or mediocre live-action bastardizations rather than the original cel works or more faithful adaptations. Why hasn't Disney been able to have a successful animated feature that doesn't involve kid-friendly talking objects or singing princesses?
Reply | <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('7812','GeneD','As a fan of Miyazaki\'s anime, it\'s hard for me to be objective, but I think Kiki\'s Delivery Service<\/em> is his most accessible work to younger, Western audiences.
Kiki's is a fun movie, but definitely mellow, Miyazaki fare. Not as good as some of his other films like Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, or Naussica of the Valley of the Winds, but I liked it a heck of a lot better than Spirited Away. :)
Reply | <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('7809','Arc Nova','Kiki\'s<\/em> is a fun movie, but definitely mellow, Miyazaki fare.
I really liked Kiki's Delivery; I'm not sure why, but it touched me.

And I find it amusing that people keep telling you to watch Miyazaki films when you're apparently not a fan.

Personally, right now I'm watching Death Note (fantastic, no-nonsense plot heavy psychological thriller about a boy who gains the ability to kill people just by writing their name in his notebook and his desire to rule the world with this power as its god) on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim; I highly recommend it.
Reply | <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('7810','RainbowDespair (Robert Boyd)','I really liked Kiki\'s Delivery<\/em>; I\'m not sure why, but it touched me.\r\n \r\nAnd I find it amusing that people keep telling you to watch Miyazaki films when you\'re apparently not a fan.\r\n \r\nPersonally, right now I\'m watching Death Note<\/em> (fantastic, no-nonsense plot heavy psychological thriller about a boy who gains the ability to kill people just by writing their name in his notebook and his desire to rule the world with this power as its god) on Cartoon Network\'s Adult Swim; I highly recommend it.'); return false;">Quote

I'm always pleased when I hear of a new Kiki fan. It's a favourite movie that I always watch whenever I need a little pick-me-up. :) Good review!
Reply | <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('7807','Alissa','I\'m always pleased when I hear of a new Kiki fan.
I'll have to check out Kiki's. I tried several anime films over the years, but didn't really enjoy any of them. Maybe it's just not my genre :)
Reply | <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('7806','Anton','I\'ll have to check out Kiki\'s<\/em>.
